NTRWA October 2005 Spotlight
On...
ANGELA CAVENER

Angela Cavener prides herself on
being a Texas girl. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas. She lived there
until she was twelve years old. Then, her family made the big move to
Arlington, Texas. She has lived in Arlington for more than thirty years.
When she was young she played with her sister and liked to make up
outrageous stories when she played with her Barbie dolls. She wrote her
first vivid story when a tornado was moving toward her families home. She
snuck out of the house and wrote about the experience in descriptive
detail the next day.
She first met her husband in a
photography class in high school. However, love didn't blossom until she
saw him again four years later at a mutual friend's wedding. He was
taller, very handsome and ALL grown up. He was wearing a powder blue tux (oohhh!)
and was standing in front of a window -- surrounded by a halo of sunshine.
It was an epiphany and Angela fell hard. He went off to Texas Tech, but a
few months later, he registered at UTA where she was attending. After
their first date, he wrote her a beautiful poem. Angela told her mother,
"That's the man I am going to marry." The couple dated for only
ten months! Now years later, the couple has two beautiful daughters.
Angela's husband still writes her poems. And, he still melts her heart
when he plays his guitar and sings to her.
Angela started her career in Public
Relations writing press releases. Now, she is Vice President at the
mortgage company where she works. She likes to make beaded jewelry and
stamp and emboss greeting cards. She also likes making spa products such
as bath salts and massage oil. She's an avid reader. She likes paranormal
and romantic suspense with an espionage or law enforcement emphasis. Some
of her favorite authors are Jude Deveraux, Laurell K. Hamilton, Linda
Howard and Julie Garwood. She started to read when a coworker loaned her a
book by Jude Deveraux. After reading the book she was absolutely hooked on
romance. Then her coworker told her she had a gift for writing and told
Angela she should write a book. Angela listened and shortly thereafter she
wrote a book. She
wrote a historical romance novel then joined a critique group. She worked
on her writing for a couple of years but ended up setting her writing
aside for ten years.
In the last year, Angela decided to
become serious about writing and treat it more as a profession than a
hobby. She has joined NTRWA in January and she's thrilled to be part of a
group with such a talented, creative, supportive and committed writers.
She is currently working on a book that she hopes to have published.
Angela tries to write on her lunch hour, part of each evening and on the
weekends. She plans to enter a few writing contests and she would like to
one day write full time. She credits her dad as the person who influenced
her life the most. Whenever he was proud of her, he always got tears in
his eyes and tried to wipe them away before anyone could see. After he
passed away, Angela found that her macho dad had saved every birthday card
she had ever given him and every clay ashtray or play-dough horse. Her
father once told her she could do whatever she wanted to do. So, whatever
happens she will never give up writing.
