President's Corner

A monthly chapter overview by

NTRWA President, Terri Griffis

October 2005

As we move into the fall and activity with our children, jobs, and school becomes more rushed, it also becomes harder to find time to write. One thing that has always worked for me is the ten minute rule. If I have ten minutes, I have time to write. Now, I’ve modified that to the five minute rule – if I have five minutes, I have time to write. Sometimes it’s only a sentence or paragraph at a time but I am putting words to paper, which is the most important phenomena. As many of you know, I’m in school, therefore it is academic writing that I’m accomplishing five minutes at a time. Right now, I’m coloring my hair and had seven minutes to wait until my color was done. That’s seven whole minutes, a lifetime in some circumstances.

If you weren’t at the September meeting, there were a couple of happenings you may want to know about. First, Britta Coleman put on a wonderful talk about getting published. The information that resonated for me was to set goals. Write them down, hang them on the fridge, on the bathroom mirror, wherever you can see them on a regular basis to help bring them about.

I made an announcement that I will not be running for President next year. This is due to the craziness of my schedule. Nursing school is very demanding and I just don’t have the time to devote to the chapter that I would like. The good news is that we already have at least one volunteer.

Remember to bring your unwanted books to the October meeting for the NTRWA book sale. If you can arrive around 10 a.m., volunteers will be on hand to package your books for sale. Thanks in advance to all the wonderful members of NT who participate in our chapter in so many ways!
