May is my birthday month -- another year older. It’s time to reassess my feelings, accomplishments, and goals to determine just where I am in the overall scheme of life. It would be easy to be depressed, however, I’m not much into depression so I let that go and ask myself if I’m any wiser. Why is it I still feel the same way that I did when I was twenty? Yes, yes, I know, I don’t look like I’m twenty anymore. Wouldn’t it be great if one looked only as old as they felt? That would really motivate me to exercise, eat right, and get enough sleep.

As for wiser? Well, I do know more. At least about all the stuff I’ve crammed into my head for the last year at school. From Microbiology, I learned that all those funny smells in the refrigerator mean “something” is growing. From Chemistry, I finally learned metric conversions. From Anatomy and Physiology, I learned that the human mind and body is such a unique and complicated work of art tat to be ‘alive’ is a miracle in itself. And it’s this realization that makes me thankful to be another year older even though I have another wrinkle or two. I even know that the signs of aging I’m experiencing are from those nasty little free radicals, so I make sure I take my Vitamin C to help combat them.

Even though I may not look twenty anymore, and no matter how many birthdays pass, romantic gestures still get to me every time. I don’t think I’ll ever be too old for romance.
